Liquid charcoal in a 35 ml tube is a clean, dust-free way of painting, charcoal drawing and under-painting with charcoal. The pigment is of natural origin and is created by charring cherry pitts from the EU area and the result is a unique warm, brownish cherry pitt coal black.

Due to the larger quantity of colour you can squeeze from the tube, liquid charcoal can be used to quickly cover large areas. The liquid charcoal contains a high-quality Gum Arabic binder, like traditional artists' watercolours and gouaches and has a gouache-like consistency. It can be diluted with water, so that different shades, structures and layer thicknesses can be achieved by different application. Depending on the substrate and the thickness of the layer, it can be wiped off by hand and removed with water. Used as thin under-painting, subsequent paints do not become dirty or become less dirty than with conventional charcoal under-painting due to the higher adhesion of the bound carbon pigments to the substrate.

Of course, the liquid charcoal can be combined with drawing charcoal. The blurring and ease of erasing of the liquid charcoal depends on the surface of the substrate - the more even and firm the surface, the easier to change the application. Prior testing is always recommended.

Our preferred logistics supplier is Australia Post. Occasionally the weight or dimensions of your parcel exceed the restrictions applied by Australia Post. Our preferred logistics provider then is Toll. Depending on the contents of the parcels varying surcharges may apply to the shipping applied to your order. For example Dangerous Goods classified products or products over 1.5 metres in length will incur a minimum surcharge of $60.

Paper is a fragile product, and our goal is to ensure it arrives to you safely. Extra packing will be used to ship it safely and although we do not charge for this, there may be an increase in logistics charges. We recommend that you consider purchasing a minimum of 5 sheets or pack quantities to both save on purchase price and shipping charges.

We aim to make the shipping charge as cost effective as possible and to ensure you receive your art supplies in good condition. Please review our complete Shipping Policy information from the link in the footer for more details.

Liquid charcoal in a 35 ml tube is a clean, dust-free way of painting, charcoal drawing and under-painting with charcoal. The pigment is of natural origin and is created by charring peach stones from the EU area and the result is a unique neutral toned, peach stone coal black.

Nitram Académie Fusains B (Soft) 5mm

For the discerning artist that requires a rich black for drawing, then Nitram B is the answer. It is very soft, yet is still able to carry a point for working rich blacks into the paper or canvas.

Nitram Académie Fusains HB (Medium) 5mm

This medium soft charcoal is the one most preferred for drawing and sketching. Nitram HB’s superior hold is perfect for homogenizing tones and retaining tonal detail.

Nitram Académie Fusains H (Hard) 5mm

Nitram H can be sharpened to an extra fine point for creating fine detail in your drawing. Also, the unique hardness of Nitram H makes lighter and mid tones easier to attain.

Much to the delight of artists everywhere, the renowned Nitram Fine Art Charcoal has returned. First introduced in 1962 and considered the best on the market, in recent years  it had become difficult to obtain. Now, thanks to the determination of Jerzy Niedojadlo, who purchased the company and took over production, the near-mythic Nitram Fine Art Charcoal is again available for artists to enjoy. Inheriting the original techniques and processes of Nitram charcoal’s manufacture and honing the master’s process has ensured that its legacy as the best charcoal product in the world is honored. Nitram is the Preferred Charcoal of Professional Artists, Academies and Ateliers.

The unique manufacturing process produces a high-grade rich black charcoal that is neither compressed nor reconstituted. Unlike other charcoal, Nitram is less prone to breaking, splitting or excessive dusting. Nitram comes in different grades in colour-coded packs: B, HB and H, as well as Extra Soft grades in a variety of larger sizes.

Pitt compressed charcoal sticks are grease and oil free and apply very intense black tones and apply charcoal tones in a very soft application.

Natural charcoal sticks are the oldest sketching and drawing material in the world. The greyish-blue shade glides softly across the paper, rubs and smudges easily, and can be erased without difficulty and repeatedly overlaid. Their blueish hue has always held a fascination, even with the old masters. The charcoal pencils leave a much blacker line. Compressed charcoal with soot and clay give the charcoal pencils their deep black colour and can be produced in different degree of hardness.

These pencils give you all the good points of charcoal pencils; they can be smudged and blended easily, you have great control and there’s less mess, plus you get colour with a beautiful element of charcoal ‘blackness’! Enjoy the possibilities in your artwork by exploring the subtle and muted harmonies which can be achieved.
