The Home of Old Holland

A Legacy of Quality

In 1664, the members of the St Luke Artists' Guild in Den Haag, South Holland bonded over a shared problem: for every splash of colour they added to their artworks, they needed to hand-grind the paint themselves, carefully measuring out the oil they added as they painstakingly ground the powdered pigment to get their desired texture.
So they decided to do something about it- establishing a business of pre-mixed paints made by artists, for artists. They quickly built themselves a reputation for the highest-quality paints made from the highest-quality ingredients- if you see a Vermeer, Van Gogh, or Hals in a gallery, the odds are high that the story of every shade of paint on that canvas began at Old Holland's factory.
The techniques and manufacturing processes of Old Holland paints have changed over time, embracing new technologies and pigments- but consistently standing by the founding intentions of those Old Dutch Masters: quality, saturation, and consistency.
