Havana Ochre originates in the Luberon region of France, and is famous for its slight warm pink overtones. It can be found in some of the oldest cave art in Europe, and has been mined for use in art since then. As a result, the true Havana earth is a diminishing resource, and all but one quarry in the Luberon have closed operations. That is why Michael Harding's Ochre Havana of France uses synthetically produced Yellow Earth to make its bulk, with the more widely found French Red Ochre tinting it in imitation of the original.
Artists the world over recognise and appreciate Michael Harding’s handmade oil paints for their high pigment load and purity. Now watercolourists everywhere will benefit from the unprecedented proportions of pigment in the new range of 136 finely ground watercolours by Michael Harding. These watercolours will amaze with their colour strength, vibrance, clarity, and longevity!
